REDONDO BEACH, Calif. – April was and May is shaping up to be stellar months for team Body Glove. Luke Stedman (AUS) finished 3rd at the Rip Curl Bells Beach WCT event losing narrowly in the semi-final to 7 times world champion Kelly Slater. This marks Luke’s best result in a WCT event to date and pushes him up to 11th in the world rankings. Next up for the guys on the WCT is the dangerous waves of Tahiti. You can expect to see stellar performances from Body Glove chargers C.J. Hobgood and Bruce Irons. The live webcast will be on from May 9-16 at www.aspworldtour.com
The 14th Body Glove Surfbout at Lower Trestles was an unqualified success with great surfing, scenery and all around stoke. Again Luke Stedman had a stellar performance finishing 3rd place overall. The highlight of the event without a doubt was the performance of 19 year-old Body Glove team rider, Alex Gray (USA). Alex finished 4th in the Men’s event of the Surfbout and 3rd place in the Oakley Pro Junior that ran simultaneously. On his way to the finals in both events Alex surfed 6 heats in the final day and scored the event’s first Perfect 10 on Friday. This year’s event was the first year we provided a live webcast all 5 days of the event that saw over 30,000 unique viewers for the week. The Body Glove Surfbout will also be shown on Fuel TV during the month of June.
Dion Agius (AUS) celebrated his 21st birthday in traditional Body Glove fashion with a dinner at Takao restaurant in San Clemente with the Body Glove team. This month will undoubtedly go down in the books as a classic for the Body Glove surf team.
In non-surf team news, Body Glove sponsored AVP professional volleyball player, Sean Rosenthal, is off to a great start for the 2006 tour. Sean and his partner, Jake Gibb, started the season on a 20 game winning streak that saw them take the opening tournament of the season at the AVP Cuervo Gold Crown Ft. Lauderdale Open. The pair split the $50,000 winner’s check which was the largest purse on tour since 1997. Rosenthal and Gibb then made it to the finals of last weekend’s AVP Tempe Open in Arizona. The pair battled all week and after 2 consecutive finals are now the team to beat on the AVP tour. If the AVP comes to your town be a part of Sean’s group of supporter known as “Rosie’s Raiders”.
